अनुदिनी - १९ 'असा मी असा मी' / Blog -19 'Asa mi Asa mi'

असा मी...असा मी! एकदा मी असाच हिच्याबरोबर कापडखरेदीला गेलो होतो. हिचं नेहमीप्रमाणं ते हे काढा हो,ते ते काढा हो, चाललं होतं. मी थोडासा इतर गिऱ्हाहीकांकडे (customers) पाहण्यात गुंतलो होतो. तेवढ्यात ही म्हणाली, "कसं आहे हो अंग?" (fairness) मी म्हटलं, "खूपच गोरं आहे नाही?" “गोरं?” असं म्हणून ही एवढ्यांदा ओरडली की मी ज्या गोऱ्या अंगाकडे पाहत होतो तेदेखील दचकलं. लुगडं (saree) हे अंग झाकण्यासाठी असतं अशी माझी समजूत. आता लुगड्यालाही अंग असतं हे मला काय ठाऊक ! नागपूर, महेश्वर, इरकल, इचलकरंजी, कांजीवरम, बनारस, वगैरे गावं पुरुषांचा सूड घेण्यासाठी स्थापन झाली आहेत. एकदा मला ही अशीच म्हणाली होती, "हा पडवळी रास्ता बरा आहे का बैंगणीच घेऊ?" मला आधी हा रास्ता कोण ते ठाऊक नव्हतं. पण पडवळ (snake gourd) ही गोष्ट नावडती असल्यामुळं “हा बैंगणीच बरा दिसतोय,” म्हणून मी एका लुगड्यावर (saree) हात ठेवला. 'इश्शं! अहो, हाच तर पडवळी आहे !" लगेच मी चलाखी करून म्हटलं, “अगं, तो नको म्हणून मी त्याच्यावर हात ठेवला. तो बैंगणीच घे." "इश्शं, हे कुठलं बैंगणी? हे तर मोरपंखी आहे. त्यांच्याकडची बैंगणी संपली आहेत." निमूटपणं तिच्यामागून मी बैंगणीच्या शोधात निघालो. मंडळी, हा प्रसंग आपल्या पु. ल. देशपांडेंच्या नायकावर गुदरलेला (experienced) होता. तो काळ होता ६०-७० च्या दशकातला. पण बायकोबरोबर खरेदीला जाणे (तिच्या करता) आजही नवरे जमातीची परीक्षा बघत असतो. मंडळी,साड्यांइतकाच खरेदीचा बायकांचा जिव्हाळ्याचा दुसरा विषय म्हणजे, "दाग-दागिने". ह्यांची हौस एवढी दांडगी असते की हे दागिने अंगावर सजवण्यासाठी आपला समस्त महिला वर्ग नाक,कान टोचून घेण्याच्या वेदनाही सहन करतात. अहो, कुठे कुठे तर ही हौस ओठापर्यंत ही जाते. हौसेला मोल नसतं असं म्हणतात; इथे तर "मोला" सोबत वेदनाही नसतात की राव! ह्या, समस्त सोशिक महिला वर्गास प्रणाम! तर, असो! सांगायचं असं की,काळाच्याही वरताण ठरलेल्या ह्या स्वभाव गुणधर्माला आता काळाने नवरे मंडळींना थोडासा का होईना पण दिलासा दिलेला आहे. ऑनलाईन सोने खरेदी - विक्री, E - Gold ! तर, मंडळी, हे काय असतं? ही सेवा National Spot Exchange Ltd. मार्फत उपलब्ध करून दिली जाते. त्या करता वेगळे डिमॅट खाते उघडावे लागते. E - Gold चे प्रत्येक युनिट हे एक ग्रॅम सोन्याच्या किंमती एवढे असते. E - Gold च्या मूल्याएवढे सोने Custodian कडे ठेवले जाते. भांडवली बाजारात (stock exchange) ह्याची खरेदी व विक्री करता येते. ह्यावर दीर्घ भांवडवली कराचा फायदा हा ३ वर्षानंतर घेता येतो. ह्यावर संपत्ती कर भरावा लागतो. E - Gold प्रमाणेच आपण Equity Traded Fund किंवा Fund of Fund ह्या पर्यायांचाही विचार करू शकता. पण काही म्हणा राव, शेवटी काही जरी असलं तरी ऑफलाईन, बायकोबरोबरच्या खरेदीची रंगत काही वेगळीच! काय, बरोबर ना!

Asami Asami Once I accompanied my wife shopping for a saree. As usual, my wife demanded to see all the varieties of sarees. While she was busy choosing her saree, I got busy observing the other customers. Just then, my wife asked me, “How is this body?” I said, “Isn’t it too fair?” “Fair?” She screamed out that I was stunned, and so was the fair body who I was looking at.  I knew that Saree is a cloth to conceal the body, but I never knew that the saree too had a “body” Towns like Nagpur, Maheshwar, Irkal, Ichalkaranji, Kanjiwaram, Banaras etc. were purportedly established to avenge the male community. Once, she had perplexed me asking, “Should I buy this “Snake gourdish” colour (Rasta) or the “brinjalish”. Actually, I did not understand what she meant by Rasta. Just because I did not like snake gourd, I offered her the recommendation to buy brinjalish saree by pointing at the snake gourdish saree. She mocked me, saying, “that is the snake gourdish one and not the brinjalish one. I immediately composed myself wittily and said that I pointed at it because I did not like it and wanted to recommend that brinjalish one only. “Oh! This is not brinjalish; this is peacock featherish. They have exhausted the stock of brinjalish”, and she stepped out of the shop. I silently followed her in search of the brinjalish saree. Friends, this story & experience is of the hero from 'Asami Asami'  novel, by PL Deshpande. This was the era of the 60s or 70s. Yet, even today, it is a herculean task for husbands to go shopping with their wives. Friends, besides the sarees, the second most or rather equally important and sentimental subject of shopping for the ladies is the shopping for jewellery. They are so obsessed with this commodity that they pierce their bodies to decorate themselves ornately. Some ladies even pierce their lips and tongues to wear the jewellery. They say, for such obsessions, there is no limit. However, the pain associated with this is also conveniently neglected. A salute to this community!! Well, To counter this age-old tradition that has not become obsolete whatsoever, and as a Samaritan to the “husband” community, the time has brought them some relief. “Trading of Gold online, i.e., E-gold trading.” So, what’s this? This service is offered by the National spot exchange and needs a separate Demat account. Every unit of E-gold is equivalent to the cost of 1gm of gold. The amount of actual gold deposited with the custodian is equivalent to the value of the E-gold. This can be traded on the stock exchange. One can avail of the benefits of a tax on long-term investment over 3 years, and this investment attracts property tax. Like E-gold, one can even think of other options like “Equity Traded Fund” or “Fund of Fund.” But all said and done, the offline shopping along with the wife is still exciting!! isn’t it?
